Short horror game

Slide in the woods is a free horror adventure game where you play in a first-person perspective and explore a literal slide in the woods. The game has little to no context. You’re simply taken to the middle of a foggy forest with nothing to do but go through the slide.

The game is created by an indie developer named Johnny’s Games. It had all the necessary elements of a horror game, including limited vision, eerie background music, a dark environment, and a claustrophobic space. Even with low-resolution graphics, it’s enough to give you a creepy experience, although rather short-lived.

Good concept

One of the main qualities of a good horror game is limiting the capabilities of the players. This element of helplessness is apparent in Slide in the Woods, as you have nothing but a flashlight to guide you when the dark night comes. Moreover, at the beginning of the game, there’s not much to explore and to do but go through the slide—every time you pass through, time passes.

After a couple of slides, you have the first encounter with the monster of the game, which goes through the slide. Of course, just like horror films, you follow. However, instead of coming out and seeing the forest, you’re immediately transported to a culty underground type of place. After exploring, you go back to the hole you came from and crawl up while hearing the monster chase you from behind.

The ending of the game is extremely confusing, though. There is a constant build-up for a jump scare, but it never comes, even after you finish the game. Moreover, most of your time is spent crawling underground in a cramped space, where nothing really happens, so the game feels like it’s just dragging its story. All you really have is some horror sound effects and music, and a dark tunnel.

Creepy but boring

Overall, Slide in the woods has everything you would expect from a horror-themed game. It will give you the creeps, but the constant crawling will bore you out. Also, the lack of instructions can confuse players about what to do. Despite all that, the atmosphere of the game provides enough tension for it to be enjoyable. It’s also short enough that you’ll have time to play other games.
